One of the most anticipated premieres in the modern industry took place at the Frankfurt motor show, which opened today: a new generation of the iconic SUV was presented. He has become more elegant and much more modern, but must retain those abilities, thanks to which he became a celebrity.

The SUV has maintained a permanent all-wheel drive with lockable center differential and the transfer case, but everything else, in fact, lost. The design now does not provide a frame – Defender is based on the carrier body, the suspension has become completely independent, and the mechanical box is not provided at all. At the same time, the British are confident that off-road novelty will not be saved thanks to the original solutions.

Aluminum monocoque body made ultra-rigid-stated that it is three times tougher than the frame version. The well-thought-out geometry of the body allowed to provide impressive geometric parameters: with a ground clearance of up to 291 mm with air suspension (226 mm on springs), the long-wheelbase Defender 110 has a 28-degree ramp angle and 38 and 40 degrees of entry and exit angles. The length of the wheelbase of this version is 3,022 mm, and the Defender 90-about half a meter less.

At the same time, the older model is able to take on Board up to 7 passengers (according to the scheme 5+2), and the younger – up to 6 thanks to a specially invented insert seat on the front row. The boot capacity of the "Defender" now stretches from 231 to 380 h 2 For the interior has many finishing options (including wear-resistant), two digital panel (12.3-inch instrument and 10-inch multimedia), but perhaps the original solution was a massive magnesium frame in the center of the front panel: it holds, in fact, all the controls it also serves as a handhold for the passenger.

The multimedia system itself was named Pivi Pro and a powerful processor that allows the British to talk about a single digital architecture. It is claimed that the system interface has become simpler and more intuitive, the system itself is now loaded almost instantly.

For off-road abilities of new item will be responsible not only geometry, but also a newly calibrated system Terrain Response 2 with automatic and four individual modes, as well as the first appeared mode "Ford": when choosing electronics itself will prepare the SUV to overcome water obstacles up to 900 mm (in the past - 500 mm). In addition, announced the system of "transparent" parts of the body, allowing due to the cameras to look "through" the hood and rear pillars – it is not considered the traditional function of all-round view.

For new items announced just four powertrains, against only one, which was the predecessor. One of them – a four-cylinder diesel-will be offered in 200-and 240-horsepower versions with 430 Nm of torque (acceleration to 100 km / h - for 10.3 and 9.1 s, respectively). The third will be a two-liter gasoline turbo engine with a recoil of 300 HP, the fourth-a "soft hybrid" of six cylinders for the P400 version, already familiar from other models. It will be able to develop 400 HP and 550 Nm of torque, but will enter the market later than all the others. Motors will work with an 8-speed automatic.

Sales will start with the Defender 110 version ,the "short" SUV will appear a little later, and next year the family will grow some "commercial versions".
